This website makes an attempt to offer you recipes primarily from Mangalore, who originally migrated from Goa. So we have very many similarities. Our mothers and grand mothers perfected Mangalorean cooking. However, the memory of the taste of these foods they prepared is fast being forgotten with new trends in the food industry, For those, who are enterprising and interested in trying a variety of dishes, and those who are longing for their home food, this site may prove useful. Please make your entries in the Guest Book. Thanks. Your recipe contributions are most welcome. Please email them to me by clicking Here. New recipes will be added around 1st week of every month Feed Back. Please drop in a few lines of what you would like to see on this website.

Some information about myself:I was born in Mangalore in 1934, near Milagres Church, Hampankatta to John Pais and Stella Castelino. My father was the, son of Joseph Pais and Regina Saldanha of Balmatta and my mother was the daughter of John Manuel Castelino and Felicitas Tellis of Milagres. Mr. Joseph Pais, a coffee planter was a well known benefactor of churches, schools and hospitals in Mangalore. Mr. Castelino was the head master of Milagres School for 50 years. He also founded the first Catholic Bank of the same name sometime in the 30s. This bank was later merged with the Syndicate Bank in the 50s. Our ancestral home in Balmatta is presently the Nazareth Convent, after it changed hands several times from the time it was sold in 1934. My uncle Mr. Marian Pais of Vas Lane, had been a deputy Collector and three of his sons have served in the priesthood, one as a diocesan priest and two as capuchin priests. two of his daughters became nuns. All have expired. A sister of mine, 83 years old, is in the Sisters of Charity from 1944 and a brother of mine Fr. Everic Pais s. j. is a Jesuit priest ordained in 1964 who now works in Nagaland at the age of 80 I finished my high school in St. Aloysius College and went to work in the Gulf: Doha Qatar from 1960 to 1971 and Dubai: 1972 to 1984, and worked with Salam Studio and Stores. After retirement am living in Mumbai, and spend my time in writing programs for the computer, composing Church Music and hosting this website. It has been my pleasure to serve my community this way, trying in a small way to walk on the path shown by my grandfathers. Walter Pais |
