Scrape the coconut and grind it to make a paste and add with the coconut all the other ingredients. Use tamarind and salt to taste. Add a little water for grinding. The onion should be cut into small manageable cubes. If you want less pungency, remove some of the seeds from the chillies.
Apply the chutney paste, with butter on both sides of the slices, and put them facing each other, for the sandwich.
