Ingredients

Method

Keep water on the fire, when boiling add rice and dhal previously cleaned and turmeric powder, the water being about 3 fingers above the rice. Cook till nearly soft. Add ghee and salt to taste and stir. Slow the fire underneath, keep live coals on the lid, stir frequently. Serve with curry and chutney.

If desired six pepper corns, six cloves, 2 pods cardamoms, 2 or 3 sticks of cinnamon in full and a piece of ginger, a few coriander leaves cut into bits, can be added when rice is boiling.
